Our Goals

Our long-term goal is to produce alpacas with ultra-fine fleeces.  We want our alpacas to maintain fine fleeces throughout the majority of their lives (not like the average alpaca who only has fine fleece in the first 1 to 3 years).  Although our main goal is fine fleece, we still want to maintain good density and staple length (not an easy goal but we're up to the challenge).

In 2004 & 2005 we added the genetics of the super fine-fleeced males: DPO Minos (AFD of 18.5 µ at 2yrs) and Tell Trisco (AFD of  16.3 µ at 2yrs ....  at the time, it seemed almost unbelievable to us!).

In 2006, we added the genetics of RFA Mousse to our herd (16.7 µ at 2yrs ....  another incredibly fine male!)

With these fine genetics, we are confident that, over time, we will reach our goals of producing fine-fleeced alpacas with slow blow-out rates, good density and staple lengths.

We do NOT starve our animals to get good microns, we try to maintain our animals at a body score around 3.5 (out of 5).  We also feed hay with good protein levels.  Our animals have low microns because they are genetically fine!
